You May Still Be Able to Reduce Your '07 Taxes — If You Act Quickly

Thinking about taxes is never fun, but it’s also something you can’t afford to put off. This is especially true as the year winds down, and time to implement certain tax-saving strategies grows short.

Fortunately, recent tax law changes have reduced rates and created many new opportunities to save tax — provided you plan carefully and act promptly. As you think about your 2007 tax liability, you might especially want to consider steps like these that you might still take to minimize it:

  • Contribute the full amount allowed to your IRA, Keogh Plan, or SEP

  • Make sure you take all of the deductions, exemptions, and credits you can

  • If married, see if you would be better off filing jointly or separately

You also will need to determine if you will have to pay the AMT. As regular tax rates fall, more and more taxpayers are becoming subject to this tax, and you don’t want to be surprised by it. Calculating the AMT can be complicated, so you will find it helpful to consult the Doeren Mayhew tax professionals for help in running the numbers and seeing what you can do to minimize any AMT liability.

To help you see which tax reduction strategies might be best for you, please take a moment to review our complimentary 2007-2008 Tax Planning Guide*. It describes steps you can take now and in the future to lighten your tax burden.

Call Doeren Mayhew today at 248.244.3080 or e-mail  degennaro@doeren.com to arrange a time we can meet and discuss ways to maximize your tax savings for 2007 and beyond. Doeren Mayhew specializes in tax advisory services, and we would be happy to review your current situation, show how recent tax law changes may affect you, and suggest tax-smart ways to achieve your short- and long-term financial goals

But don’t delay. To save the most, you may have to act promptly. And the earlier you begin, the sooner you can start reaping the benefits of careful tax planning.
